When I was a little girl, we used to sing a song about our witness for Jesus.
"This little light of mine...I'm gonna let it shine...."
Do you remember that song?
There's a verse that goes, "Hide it under a bushel? NO!! I'm gonna let it shine..."
We used to yell the "NO!!" at the top of our lungs.
"I'm NEVER hiding how much I love Jesus!! I'm not ashamed of Him!"
I got to thinking about that.
I have a lamp in my room, that I was using by my desk.
I had set it on a low table behind the bookcase near the wall.
But the thing was, the room was dim.
I could only see by my desk, because it was closed in.
The light was hemmed in between the wall and the bookcase.
So I moved my lamp to a higher table, where the entire room could benefit from the light.
Sometimes it's not a bushel that is hiding the light of God in us.
It's not covered completely.
It's just that it's hemmed in by the cares of this world, stress from work, financial worries, relationship issues, or a mountain of laundry.
We have to put our lamp in a higher place!
Jesus said, "If I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men unto Me." (John 12:32)
When we lift Him higher than all the other stuff that isn't eternal in value, we are EXALTING Him, and through us, He can draw others to Himself.
His light can be seen.
Unhindered.

ReplyDeleteSuch a powerful post Kari! Lord help me to put my light in a higher place where it can shine brighter! Praise God! Thanks for sharing this with us! Angie D!
ReplyDeleteI loved this post Kari, and the reminder of how the craziness of life can cause us to "hinder" His light in us. I love how you wrote, "We have to put our lamp in a higher place" referencing exalting God. That's what it's all about! Beautifully written! Lord, help us to not allow the things of this world to keep us from viewing Your full light and sharing it with eachother, that we may lift You up in all things!
ReplyDeleteAmen!
ReplyDeleteGREAT post! This truth can apply to all of us in any season of life! Thanks for sharing ;)
